Loan

SSK provides loans to SHGs the directly to the women themselves for productive activities and initiatives. Loans range from short term to long term, and are provided to both rural and urban communities for agriculture, horticulture, water and sanitation, livelihoods and enterprises, emergency and others purposes.

Some uses of loans taken for agriculture are to purchase/process of seeds for crops, purchasing of pesticides and fertilizers, and making organic pesticide and fertilizers from organic material (plants). Uses of loans taken for horticulture are usually for purchasing of cows, buffalos, and/or goats, which in turn become sources of milk and income (through the sale of milk) for the women and their families.

Uses of loan taken for water and sanitation loans are usually to improve or increase the supply of water to the community, and to assist the community in accessing clean drinking water. Emergency loans in most circumstances are used towards hospitalization and medical cost (in the case of a medical emergency), or to cover house expenses temporarily in cases where the family ‘bread-winner’ has passed away. Loans given for livelihood/enterprise initiatives are utilized for a range of things and depend upon the type of enterprise or livelihoods being undertaken by the women. Loans are also given to cover education costs, household repair and medical expenses such as medicines.
